The Coastal Path on the Østfold Line

You can follow the Coastal Path between Kambo and Moss on a disused part of the Østfold Line. The rail trail became accessible to hikers after a new double track line opened in 1996.

From Kambo station follow the road southwards along the coast to Kambo marina and continue along the quay towards Felleskjøpet. Follow the marked path into the woods. At the fork in the path, turn right and go down the steep slope to where the railway corridor begins. On your way you will pass a big bomb crater from the Second World War.

Round trip

The rail trail follows the coast until it meets the new double tracks after 1.5 kilometres. You will pass a small sandy beach on the way where you can fancy a dip. Instead of continuing to Moss, you can take a roundtrip back to Kambo. Take the gravel road up to Molbekktjernet lake and follow the Pilegrim Trail towards Kambo through the Mosseskogen forest. You will pass a tourist information board at the lake about the ice cutting industry. Ice was here exported to England and Poland until 1909.

How do I get there?

Vy local train L21 (Stabekk–Oslo S–Moss) to Kambo.
