When the double-track Asker Line partly opened between Sandvika and Asker on 1 August 2005, it was 9.5 kilometres long. The line was not completed until the last 6.7-kilometre stretch opened between Lysaker and Sandvika on 2 September 2011. Most of the corridor is in tunnel and runs parallell to the Drammen Line. The 5,500-metre "Bærumstunnelen", which is the longest, is located between Lysaker and Sandvika.
Shorter Travel Time
After the Asker Line opened, travel time was reduced and capacity was increased. The line is dimensioned for speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour. Freight trains, all regional services, airport express trains and some local trains are today running on the line.
