From Frognerseteren station follow the trail along the western side of the track. After 250 metres the corridor continues as a rail trail. The Tryvand Line opened in 1916 and was the first name of the Holmenkollen Line between Besserud and Tryvannshøgda station. This terminus was never built, but freight trains operated all the way up to Tryvann to transport heavy equipment during the construction of the radio station and the antenna masts. The track was dismantled in 1939 and later replaced by a rail trail.
Rock cuts
The first part goes slightly uphill pass several rock cuts. After a sharp bend to the left you will see the antenna mast right in front of you. There used to be several other masts at Tryvannshøgda as well, and the first was raised in 1918 by the Norwegian Telegraph Administration.
Øvresetertjern
You will get a great view of the lake Øvresetertjern and the city centre before the corridor continues steep uphill. Then you must follow Tryvannsveien the last hundre kilometres to Tryvannshøgda. The Tryvand Line continued on the west side of the road, but the corridor is now too overgrown to traverse. The 118-metre broadcasting tower is situated at Tryvannshøgda, but the observation deck was closed for visitors in 2005. Many local politicians want to extend the Holmenkollen Line up to Tryvannshøgda, so the line could be reopened in the future.
