The 24-kilometre Sperillen Line branched off the Randsfjord Line at Hen and ended at Finsand. In 1933, only seven years after the opening, the passenger service terminated. The track was demolished in the 1960s, but there are still many remains of the railway. The station buildings at Finsand and Hallingby are preserved as well as tunnels and bridges. At Bergsund you can follow one kilometre of the corridor as a rail trail and explore two railway tunnels.

Stueberget Tunnel
Start at the end of the road Kirsebærveien, You will find the corridor behind a garage and the 43-metre Stueberget Tunnel. If you are a geocacher you can search for the first of three caches here. The rail trail continues over a short bridge where there is a new hidden cache.

Bergsund Tunnel
Continue one kilometre until you reach Bergsund Tunnel. This is 598 metres long and dark, so you are entering on your own risk. It's used as a potato storage by the Military, so the other entrance is closed. Near the open tunnel entrance you may also find the last geocache.

Somma Station
Bergsund Rest Area is located along E16 just beneath the corridor. Be careful when you are climbing down the steep forest path. You can also return back to the garage and continue to Somma along the corridor. The first part has almost vanished, but it will continue as a gravel road and end up where Somma station used to be after one kilometre.

How do I get there?

Follow E16 northwards and take a right onto Åsterudveien five minutes after you have passed Hallingby. This is the exit before Bergsund rest area. Take a left onto Kirsebærveien and continue until the road ends. The railway corridor continues as a rail trail behind the garage. Alternatively you can start vice versa from Bergsund rest area. Climb up the steep path until you reach the corridor. By public transportation, take bus 232 from Hønefoss to Hvitmyrveien bus stop.
