Distance: Duration: Terrain: Level: Type:
3 km 1 hour Gravel road Easy Hikes
The disused part of the Vestfold Line between Gutu and Galleberg has been reconstructed to a 3-kilometre long rail trail. You will pass through a beautiful ravine landscape before the trail ends at Galleberg Station.

Once you have crossed the railway bridge along the street Gutugata, you will see the corridor to the left. The first part follows the double track closely on a ridge where you will get a great view over Bremsa. This river was important for the forest industry. There used to be a timber slide on the other side, allowing the logs to pass the waterfall Gutufossen.

Old spur
After 1.5 kilometres the rail trail passes under the newer railway bridge. Just after you have crossed Bremsa over a short bridge, you can see the remains of a spur to the left. This was built to transport timber from a storage place and was in use until 1949.

Galleberg station
You will reach Galleberg station after one kilometre. It closed in 1978 and is a private house today. The platform and the freight shed are preserved. From here the rest of the corridor is overgrown and not traversable.

How do I get there?

Exit E18 towards Sande and follow the old E18 southwards. Take a right onto Gutugata and cross the bridge over the railway line. Then you will see the rail trail to the left.
