The Losby Line was an eight-kilometre branch line of the Trunk Line which ran between Fjellhamar and Losby. The railway opened in 1861 to transport timber from the sawmill Østmorksaga. During the 1960s the corridor was reconstructed as a rail trail. Today it is open as a cycle and footpath in the summer months and as a ski trail during the wintertime.

Adapted hiking
The rail trail starts at Sørlihavna and ends by the ruins of Østmorksaga. The gravel road is accessible for wheelchair users as well as other user groups. You will find several benches along the lit trail which follows the river Losbyelva tightly through the lush Losby valley. The corridor crosses the golf course near Losby Mansion, so you can only traverse this part when the ground is covered by snow. Instead take the short detour up to the cafeteria at Losby Farm or the more fashionable restaurant at Losby Mansion for a break.

Railway tracks
The trail continues on the eastern side of Losby Mansion along the golf course. When you see a red, long building after 800 metres, you will find the railway corridor on the other side of it. Follow this the last hundred metres until you arrive Østmorksaga. There are still visible railway tracks on the ground in this area.

Østmorksaga
There used to be a large building at Østmorksaga, but this is long gone. But the parts of the waterwheel is preserved. You will find an information board with pictures of the old sawmill if you continue up the ramp. Do not miss the idyllic recreation area situated only a hundred metres further away. Here you will find toilets and benches as well as a bathing spot.

How do I get there?

Bus 110 from Oslo or Lillestrøm to Sørlihavna bus stop. By car, exit the road to Lillestrøm and continue on Strømsveien towards Sørli. Continue straight ahead when you arrive the roundabout and take a left at the next crossroads. The Losby Line crosses the road along the crosswalk. You will find a large parking lot nearby.
