The Vamma Line was a six kilometre long industrial railway which ran between Askim and Vamma Power Station. Most of the line has been reconstructed as a rail trail. You will find a great recreation area with benches at the power station on Glomma, Norway's longest river.
Linjevegen
From Askim Station follow the cycle and footpath eastwards. Cross the footbridge at the roundabout and keep left. Continue on Sommerrogata and turn right onto Løkenveien. Then turn left and follow Kortveien until it meets Linjevegen, which has been placed over the railway corridor.
Vamma Line
Follow the cycle and footpath along Katralveien and cross the bridge over the motorway. From here the corridor continues as the rail trail "Vammalinna" on your right. This sheltered woodland path passes through a forest and an open landscape.
Vammatoppen
When you reach the crossroads after a kilometre, turn left and then right along Svenskebyveien. You will pass some rock cuts until you arrive Vammatoppen, the highest point on the railway. Several metres of track have been rebuilt here by Askim Historical Association. From here you must turn left and follow the signpost to Vamma Power Plant. You are now on the steepest part of the Vamma Line. On the other side of the power dam you will find benches with a lovely view of Vammasjøen.
