In September 2016 Mjøstråkk opened between Espa and Minnesund. The 18.6-kilometre path is part of the European cycle network EuroVelo, and from Strandlykkja to Langset near Minnesund, it follows a disused part of the Dovre Line. The route follows Mjøsa – Norway's largest lake – pass bathing spots and lovely picnic areas. The lengthsman's cottage at Morskogen station is today a DNT-cabin where you can spend the night.

Strandlykkja station
Mjøstråkk follows the disused railway line from Strandlykkja, about seven kilometres south of Espa station. After you have crossed the double track over the footbridge, you will see a breakwater on your right where the railway station used to be.

Busy line
You will now follow the double track and Lake Mjøsa closely on a gravel road the first kilometres. After 1.5 kilometres the railway will enter a tunnel, and from here you must follow the old corridor round. After you have rounded the headland you are moving away from the railway for a while. Mjøstråkk will cross the railway over a bridge and continue as a foot and cycle path along the county road.

Lengthsman's cottage
You will cross the railway over a tunnel after a couple of kilometres. From here the cycle path continues as a rail trail in a remote area with a great view of Lake Mjøsa. After 1.5 kilometres you will arrive Morskogen station. The yellow station building has been preserved as well as the old railway track. The red building on the other side is perhaps more interesting since it used to be the lengthsman's cottage. Here you can spend the night if you have a key from the Norwegian Trekking Organisation (DNT).

Korslund Tunnel
Mjøstråkk continues as an asphalted cycle path from Morskogen. It follows Lake Mjøsa in an area with beautiful surroundings and through deep rock cuts. After a couple of kilometres you must enter a lit railway tunnel. In the other end you will find a bathing spot at Ørbekk. From here Mjøstråkk crosses the railway line and continues along the county road.

How do I get there?

The express couch Vy 123 (Elverum) from Oslo to Espa bus stop by E6. Follow the trail Mjøstråkk southwards until it continues as a rail trail. By car, exit E6 towards Morskogen after you have passed the long bridge at Minnesund. After five minutes you will arrive the yellow station building where you will find parking lots.
