The 7-kilometre long Horten Line is today a cycle route which passes lovely beaches and the famous burial mounds at Borre.
Skoppum Station
The trains on the Horten Line had their own platform at Skoppum Station, opposite where the trains stop today. Follow the track on the ground until it continues as a cycle and footpath.
Borre Station
The path will go slightly downhill for the first kilometre until it crosses Sande river over a former railway bridge. After a short ascend. the cycleway continues through an open and flat agricultural landscape. You will arrive Borre Station after a couple of kilometres. The platform is well preserved and visible along the path.
Midgard Viking Centre
You will pass the Midgard Viking Centre, which is worth a visit. It is located only 300 metres away from the station. Outside the centre you will find northern Europe's largest collection of burial mounds from the late Iron Age.
Extended cycleway
In 2017 the cycleway was extended three kilometres to Horten Station. This section is wider and has separated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. This part is mostly flat and follows the coast closely past several lovely beaches.
Horten Station
Just before you arrive the city centre, you will sea a large and open area on the right side of the road between two roundabouts. This was the former station area. The station building was demolished in 1973, but the white gods shed has been preserved.
