The last kilometres of the Brevik Line is now a part of the Coastal Path. You can follow a marked trail along the railway track to a beautiful railway station at the terminus. On your way you will pass a 21-metre long tunnel.

After the passenger traffic ended in 1968, only freight trains run on the Brevik Line. The tracks outside Brevik Station have been removed, but they are partly preserved north of the station area. 1.5 kilometres of the railway corridor are now part of the coastal path between Skjelsvik and Brevik.
Rock cuts and tunnel
Follow the blue-marked path on your right just before Tangenvegen bus stop. This goes down to the disused track, which you can follow all the way to Brevik station. You will pass an area with deep rock cuts and through a thick birch forest until you reach Trosvik Tunnel. It's only 21 meters long, so you don't need a torch.
Brevik Station
The path continues on the right side of the track until you reach the station. The large station building is made of brick and was designed by the famous Norwegian railway architect Paul Due. It was built in 1895 and had a total of three waiting rooms. The station also had it's own restaurant, where the passengers could enjoy a good meal before continuing their journey on the coastal route to Kristiansand, which was in operation until 1934.

How do I get there?
Bus M1 (Langesund) from Porsgrunn to Tangenveien bus stop. The bus runs every 30 minutes and stops at Skjelsvik Terminal and Brevik as well in case you walk in the opposite direction. If you arrive by car it's easiest to park at Brevik station and walk vice versa. From Oslo/Kristiansand exit E18 towards Brevik.
