The Skreia Line was opened on 26 November 1902 after approval by the Parliament on 19 June 1897. According to the original plans, the same route should be used by the Gjøvik Line, but the plans were changed to meet the requirements of the industry in Raufoss and other areas. The Skreia Line became instead a branch line when the part between Jaren and Gjøvik was opened on the Gjøvik Line.

Milk and animal transport
According to a timetable of 1907, it took one hour between Reinsvoll and Skreia. The travel time was reduced to 45 minutes after a railcar was put in service in 1927. Five daily trains were now operating between Reinsvoll and Skreia. The Skreia Line was also important for milk and animal transport. Passenger services were closed in 1993 due to competition by bus services and cars. The freight trains continued to operate until 1987.

The Skreia Line today
Many remains after the Skreia Line exist today. The tracks between Reinsvoll and Bøverbu are preserved, but the line continues as a rail trail to Bilitt past Kolbu Station, which burned down in 2014. Many beautiful station buildings along the trail are preserved, for instance Kraby Station. The station building at the termini Skreia is also preserved. Between the station building and the old locomotive shed, there exists a few metres of railway track.
