When the Drammen Line opened between Oslo West Station and Drammen in 1972, the route went in an S-shape from Spikkestad to Brakerøya via Lierbyen. On 3 June 1973 the 11-kilometre Lieråsen Tunnel opened between Lier and Asker, which was Norway's longest until "Romeriksporten" opened on the Gardermoen Line. The travel time between the terminal stations was now significantly reduced since the new route was eleven kilometres shorter. The old corridor from Asker to Spikkestad became a branch line of the Drammen Line.

Rail trail
1.5 kilometre of the stretch from Spikkestad towards Drammen was kept for freight transport. The track from Gullaug to Brakerøya was dismantled and the corridor was later reconstructed as a rail trail. When the freight transport terminated in 1994, Spikkestad became the terminal station of the railway which was now named the Spikkestad Line. Most of the corridor from Spikkestad to Brakerøya is today a cycle route.
