Postponed opening
The construction work started in 2015 and was supposed to be completed in 2021. The opening was postponed to 11 December the year after due to budget overruns and cancellations of two entrepreneur contracts. One week after the opening all traffic was closed due to technical problems. After several corrections and test runs, the Follo Line reopened on 5 March 2023.
Increased capacity
The Follo Line has increased the capacity of the traffic between Oslo and Halden and on the branch line from Ski to Rakkestad. It is now more room for freight trains on the stretch between Oslo and Ski. Since the Follo Line is constructed for speeds up to 250 kilometres per hour, travel time may be further reduced in the future if faster trains are put into service.
