Tinfos Papirfabrik Railway

Length: Starts: Ends: Status:
2 km Tinfos Papirfabrik Kommunebrygga Abandoned
The 1.9-kilometre long line between Notodden and Tinfoss opened as a horse railway around 1900. Timber and paper products were transported between Tinfos Paper Mill and the shipping quay at Notodden. Electric and diesel locomotives were later used, but the line became a rail trail after it was closed.

After H.G. Kirsebom from Kristiansand bought Tinfos Paper Mill in 1882, he opened a horse railway to transport pulp down to Notodden quay for shipment. Timber was sent back from the quay to the paper mill. The narrow-gauged railway (780 millimetre) followed the east side of the river Tinnåas closely.

Rail trail
In 1914 an electric locomotive was used, named "Trikken" (en: the tram. The mill also bought two diesel locomotives in the beginning of the 1930s, including "Tinfos", which was transferred to the Urskog-Høland Line in 1951. The railway closed in 1972 and the corridor is today a rail trail.
