The pulp mill Union Co. built an 1.5 kilometre long narrow-gauged railway line at Skotfoss in 1892. This was the first electric railway line in Scandinavia, and it was used to transport paper products from the mill to the quay at Røråsen. The maximum speed was 7.5 kilometres an hour, and it therefore took as long as 45 minutes for a return trip.

Skotfoss Trail
After a new warehouse was built in 1961, the paper products were transported by lorry instead. The railway therefore closed in 1966. In 1998 the four-kilometre Skotfoss Trail opened, which also follows the old corridor. There are 15 information boards along the trail where you also can read about the history of the mill and the railway. Several wagons can also be found along this cultural trail.
