Saturday 27 September Skinnelangs and Turvenn arrange a cultural-historical day with a boat cruise from Oslo to Son on the Oslofjord and a hike along the river Såna to Hølen. There will be a break at Kafé Hølen, situated underneath the Hølen Viaduct, before we continue along the rail trail Smaalensbanen to Sonsveien station. We will take the train back to Oslo.
The arrangement starts with a two-hour boat cruise from Aker brygge to Son. On our way we pass historical spots such as Oscarsborg Fortress where "Blücher" was sunk by Norwegian saboteurs on 9 April 1940. Son is know for its old town with narrow alleyways, cafes, galleries and historical buildings. Thornegården from 1640, which is built in renaissance and baroque style, is considered to be one of the oldest buildings along the Oslofjord.
From Son we follow a river path along Såna to Hølen – Norway's smallest town until 1943. Here we will pass several historical buildings and an old road sign from 1928. After a lunch break at Kafé Hølen we pass over the old railway viaduct and continue along the rail trail Smaalensbanen to Sonsveien station. We will take the train back to Oslo.
The trip will take approximately five hours, which includes boat cruise, train travel, breaks and hiking. Total walking distance is seven kilometres. The event is free of charge, but you must purchase boat and train tickets yourself. Ruter fare applies.
Meetup
Latest meetup time is 9:30 outside the clock tower at Aker brygge. The boat departs at 10:00. Tickets should be purchased in advance by using the Ruter or the Entur app. The tour guide is Erlend Garåsen (ph. 91380968).
