Skinnelangs ® (English: along the railways) was founded by Erlend Garåsen (49) in 2014 to promote hiking tourism along Norwegian railways. In the beginning this website was merely a blog about his railway walks. After surviving both cancer and the rare disease called Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), he started in 2012 to walk along Norwegian railway lines to take his life back again. He completed his walking project in 2023 after having walked approximately 5,700 kilometres.
Today Erlend arranges guided walks along disused railway lines. He has written the guidebook Hiking and Biking the Rail Trails of Norway, which received excellent reviews from travel and outdoor magazines and was selected as the best guidebook of 2021 by the newspaper Nettavisen. Erlend has a master's degree in political science and works as a senior engineer at the University of Oslo.
It is strictly prohibited to enter areas nearby the railway lines which is not open to the public.
